SEASPRAY

SeaSpray is an advanced simulation training system which can be combined with the Sonobuoy Acoustic Processor to provide a complete passive and multi-static active real-time tactical training environment.

The ability to operate on the Acoustic Processors hardware provides a cost-effective solution to training, enabling a single hardware platform to be used as either acoustic simulator or an acoustic processor.

Continuous Improvement Through Training...

Sonartech Atlas understands the importance of flexible and innovative training techniques, and SeaSpray is designed to support these techniques.

The practical training environment allows the system to support instruction in basic sonar principles right through to advanced operator training including multi-static techniques in an ASW environment.

Passive and Multi-Static Active Operations…

SeaSpray enables the simultaneous generation of passive target signatures and active target echoes for up to 4 airborne, surface or submerged contacts. Physical effects such as Doppler shift, Lloyd’s Mirror, reverberation and propagation loss, are all accurately reproduced.

Passive target signatures are constructed using a graphical signature editor. Both narrowband lines (up to 256) and broadband components are used to build up a complete and realistic representation of most commercial and military vessels. The target database feature allows the operator to save and retrieve these signatures.  The ability to relate the targets signature components to target speed, allows SeaSpray to dynamically adjust target signature as the target moves through the buoy field, this includes the generation of effects such as speed related tonal variations.

The multi-static capability of SeaSpray allows the operator to generate up to 4 target echoes for either a CW, Linear FM or Hyperbolic FM ping signal. In addition the operator can download new ping signal types using standard audio WAVE files. WAVE files obtained from actual acoustic recordings allow SeaSpray to simulate a diverse range of operational tactics, for example Explosive Echo Ranging (EER).

Open Systems Tactical Interface…

An Open Systems Architecture tactical interface is provided which allows transfer of tactical data between the Acoustic Processor and Seaspray. This allows buoy deployments, field drift and track updates to be shared between the systems, allowing automatic update of SeaSpray simulation parameters.

Tactical Target Control…

The operator has the ability to control target motion through simple primitive operations, setting a speed, and course. Each target is further assigned manoeuvrability limits such as maximum rate of turn and/or maximum dive rate. These limits are then automatically taken into consideration when applying the target motion operations.  High level tactical manoeuvres, such as zig-zag, can be constructed from sequences of the motion primitives, these tactical manoeuvres can then be saved to the tactical database for use during training activities at a later stage.
